20th Century Studios opens Whalefall in theaters today. Austin Abrams plays Jay Gardiner, who dives off California’s central coast after his father’s death and is swallowed by a sperm whale.
The studio’s premise gives Jay only an hour of oxygen, turning the ordeal into a test of survival and of what he learned from his father, played by Josh Brolin. Brian Duffield directed the adaptation and wrote the screenplay with Daniel Kraus, whose novel supplied the story.
Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy and Emily Rudd are also in the announced cast. This brief confirms the release, premise and credits, not a review of the film; moviegoers should check local theater listings for showtimes.
