Sony Corporation and Berlin Phil Media have entered a co-creation partnership focused on how performing arts are recorded, preserved and experienced. The companies say their work will include production systems for concerts, archive projects, fan access and research connected with artist development.
Among the specific plans, Sony says the partners will explore high-resolution remastering of Berliner Philharmoniker archival footage and apply audio-processing technologies to historic performance recordings. They also intend to develop production infrastructure using Sony imaging, live-production and audio tools.
The partnership does not announce a finished consumer product or release timetable. Its importance lies in the long-term work: connecting concert-hall performance, the Digital Concert Hall archive and new production methods without treating technology as a substitute for the musicianship being documented.
