Easterseals Disability Services is holding the inaugural Disability Arts & Culture Awards, known as The DARCYS, at the Historic Barker Hangar in Santa Monica today. The program succeeds the Media Access Awards and centers authentic disability representation across film, television and digital media.
The published categories include best feature, documentary, scripted and unscripted series, performances, casting ensemble, social creator, the Legacy Award and the Christopher Reeve Award for Emerging Talent. Easterseals says the ceremony is produced in partnership with Film Independent and shaped with a committee of disabled entertainment professionals.
The ceremony is scheduled for a later public-television rollout: PBS SoCal Plus lists a November 17 premiere, with a PBS SoCal repeat on November 20 and wider station distribution beginning December 1. Local schedules may vary, and this notice does not report winners before the ceremony.
