Deutsche Grammophon released Daniil Trifonov’s Mi Historia Americana – Sur on October 2. The recording completes the pianist’s two-part survey of music from across the Americas and includes works connected with Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Peru and Argentina.
Trifonov performs solo music by composers including Gabriela Lena Frank, Alberto Ginastera, Camargo Guarnieri, Ernesto Lecuona and Heitor Villa-Lobos. The album also features the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra in arrangements of Aquarela do Brasil and Cuadros del Sur.
The label has scheduled a related Sala São Paulo program for streaming on STAGE+ on October 3. The artist page provides release and event details; listeners will need to hear the album or performance before deciding how the broad geographic idea holds together musically.
